The siding area has been transformed from an overgrown soggy wilderness into a firm base for the siding and use as a storage and work area. The availability of storage at the layby has been becoming critical, particularly with the requirement to accommodate Council access and material storage during the Deeside Way upgrade works and providing areas for painting the Birkenbaud Halt containers. Hardcore and a membrane have been laid to create a well-drained firm base and 150 tonnes of ballast has been spread as a base for the siding trackwork.
